BANANAS STAY FRESH WITH NO BROWN SPOTS FOR 15 DAYS WITH CLEVER WATER TRICK

Mouldy bananas are a thing of the past with this game-changing hack.

We all know we should be eating plenty of fruit every day, but it can be tricky to keep our stash from going mouldy before we've had a chance to eat it all. Bananas are one fruit that never seems to last very long, and while you can use overly ripe bananas in baking to make sure they don't get wasted, keeping them fresh for longer is preferred. And it turns out there is one way you can guarantee fresh bananas for up to 15 days, using one item we all have access to in our homes - water.

A TikTok user named Dustin Hadley conducted an experiment in a video on his @that40yearguy account in which he submerged the stalks of one bunch of bananas in a tub of water and left them for a week beside another bunch. He said: "I've never done a week-long test, we're going to try this banana hack to see if they stay fresh for longer.

"I'm going to put three bananas in the water [stalk down] and I'm going to leave the other three sitting there. We'll come back in a week or so and see what they look like."

Dustin actually returned to his bananas 12 days later and was stunned to find that the bananas that were submerged in water were much fresher than those that had been left by themselves. The bananas in the water were still covered in brown spots as they had continued to ripen, but they were solid and firm.

However, the bananas left outside of the water completely fell apart when Dustin tried to pick them up, with the stem breaking off and the peel coming away from the fruit. Although they looked very similar to the other bananas, they were much riper and would only be good for banana bread.

If you buy your bananas when they're green and store them using the water method, they can last for up to 15 days. However, if this storage solution doesn’t work for you, then a reliable method is to use cling film. All you need to do is wrap film around the stem of the banana to keep them fresh for longer.
